Cibus-owned greenhouse producer continues expansion strategy with acquisition of second major Dutch tomato business, following Duijvestijn deal in 2023
Dutch grower The Flavour Farm plans to expand its greenhouse produce business in the Netherlands with the acquisition of tomato specialist RedStar – specifically its sales operation and its Dinteloord production site.
“By joining forces, we strengthen our position in the European market for flavourful tomatoes and offer additional value to our retail partners,” commented Gert van Straalen, chief executive officer of The Flavour Farm.
The deal is expected to be completed later this year and remains subject to various conditions.
Irénke Meekma, CEO of RedStar, said: “We are pleased with the proposed acquisition and see The Flavour Farm as a partner who shares our values: passion for taste, innovation, and sustainability.”
She added: “For our customers who have trusted us for years, and for our people, this offers the prospect of further development and growth.”
The Flavour Farm, which is owned by UK-based investment group Cibus, acquired another supplier called Duijvestijn Tomaten in 2023.
Since then, it has sought to acquire and develop facilities across the UK and Europe that can offer year-round supply of premium-quality fresh produce.
Cibus also has investments in soft fruit supplier The Summer Berry Company, Saga Robotics’ agricultural project Thorvald, indoor farming group AeroFarms, pollination provider BeeHero, smart spraying systems provider Ecorobotix, and Amaretto Almonds, a leading producer of the nut in Australia.
