Variety grown and packed at company’s new state-of-the-art facility in Ecuador
Tropical fruit grower and importer Tierra Suelta, one of the largest suppliers of red and yellow dragon fruit, is now preparing to ship its first consignment of premium golden dragon fruit from Ecuador.
“Golden dragon fruit is extra sweet with a delicious flavour profile preferred by consumers because of its superior taste and texture,” said Steve Stutz, VP of sales. “We’re already one of the largest suppliers of red and yellow dragon fruit, and we’re committed to leading the category for this popular exotic fruit with new innovative products, customised programmes for our retail customers, and exceptional quality, support and service.”
Golden dragon fruit is less watery than other varieties, with a firmer flesh and sweet flavour. Once an exotic novelty, consumers are increasingly switching on to the taste and nutritional profiles of dragon fruit. According to industry research, the US dragon fruit market was valued at approximately US$91.3mn in 2024 and is projected to reach US$160mn by 2034.
Tierra Suelta said the fruit is grown on approximately 400ha of high-density orchards with its farming partner in Ecuador. The company recently built a state-of-the-art packing facility dedicated to exclusively to dragon fruit. GlobalGAP and Primus certified, it is already processing five to seven containers per week.
“We chose to build our new packing facility adjacent to the orchards so we can maximise freshness, maintain cold chain integrity, and ship the highest quality fruit,” said CEO Adrian Abreu.
“We have automated processing, and pack by hand to ensure it reaches North American retailers and consumers in pristine condition. We are staking our reputation on the flavour and quality of our fruit, and our service.”
Tierra Suelta supplies a range of tropical and exotic fruit, including star fruit, Thai guava, mamey, tropical avocados, malangas and many more.
“Besides having the volume, logistics, and infrastructure to assure adequate supply for increasing consumer demand, we offer customised packaging, merchandising support, shopper information, and private label programmes to help their retail customers succeed,” the company said.
Tierra Suelta is a woman- and minority-owned, vertically-integrated farming business that grows and ships tropical fruits, roots and specialty produce from its headquarters in Miami.
