The USDA’s Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (Aphis) has tightened import rules on a number of Chilean fruits following the discovery of live fruit fly larvae in some growing regions.
From now on grapes, lemons and pomegranates from the affected areas will require mandatory cold treatment in addition to methyl bromide fumigation.
Aphis said the additional treatment for grapes would remain in place until 30 June, while for lemons and pomegranates it would continue until further notice.
