Jazz apples

UK apple marketer Worldwide Fruit has made its first ever shipment of English Jazz apples to Thailand, with 1,100 cartons of 58-63mm fruit currently en route to the Asian country.

The apples will be sold through Worldwide Fruit’s sister company Delica in Thailand, which has previously successfully sold New Zealand, French and US Jazz to their Thai customers.

According to Worldwide Fruit’s marketing manager, Steve Maxwell, the container shipment, which is expected to arrive at Laem Chabang on 3 March, is a “one-off”, but he believes the trial “could grow into something really interesting over the next few years”.

He said” “Delica has been selling a lot of fruit all year round – they started with US and New Zealand, so we thought we’d try English.

“The fruit is just a little bit too small for the US market and the programmes Delica has developed in Thailand for smaller sizes have worked really well for them.”

Both Worldwide Fruit and Delica are co-owned by Enza.
