Producer will supply Tesco with 87 per cent more of the fast-cooking roasting variety this season amid strong demand
Branston is ramping up supply of its roasting potato variety Nemo this season thanks to high consumer demand.
A whopping 87 per cent more volume will be delivered to Tesco this season compared to 2024. In total, 1.2 million units will be available from all large Tesco stores across the UK, as well as online.
The variety, which cuts cooking time by 25 per cent, was carefully developed over nine years by crossing Inca Bella with the popular, red-skinned salad variety Franceline. It was named Nemo because of its distinctive pink and white stripes, reminiscent of the popular fish from the Disney Pixar film Finding Nemo.
To keep pace with the demand, and supply 16 times more units than in previous years, Branston has supported its growers to select the right land to deliver the volume.
Factory processes have also had to accommodate the increased production, with distribution strategically managed across all three Branston sites: Lincoln, Somerset and Perth.
Lucia Washbrook, sales and marketing director at Branston, said: “Consumers are increasingly looking for convenience, and Nemo delivers on both taste and practicality. With a reduced cooking time, it’s a potato that not only offers a great eating experience but also meets the needs of busy households.”
Tesco’s potato buying manager Lucy Moss added: “The Nemo potato has been popular since it first hit our shelves four years ago, and our customers have shown that they love this tasty variety.
“We’ve worked closely with our supplier Branston and its growers to ensure we can continue to deliver a great quality potato, and this year we’ll have more than ever for our customers.”
