Lagache FreshCo will focus on supplying the UK and several other European markets, led by former BelOrta sales and marketing director Jo Lambrecht

French fresh produce supplier Lagache is building momentum with a new export division called Lagache FreshCo to supply neighbouring European countries with a range of premium produce.
The export business, based at Lomme wholesale market near Lille, will focus on the UK and several markets in Europe and beyond, building on the strong supply relationships of its sister company Lagache.
Lagache was founded back in 1958 and supplies a full assortment of fresh produce to its customers in Belgium, the Netherlands and France. It mainly sources from growers in Belgium, France, Italy and Spain, as well as exotics from further afield.
The launch of Lagache FreshCo in November 2025 followed conversations between Lagache chairman Xavier Martin and Jo Lambrecht, who is heading up the new venture after more than 20 years at Belgian cooperative BelOrta.
Since the UK is one its target markets, Lagache FreshCo exhibited at IFE in London on 30 March to 1 April to help build its customer base.
Retail programmes are the new company’s focus, as well as some day-to-day supply to various wholesale markets.
In terms of products, the emphasis will mainly be on salads (tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, courgettes, cucumbers) and vegetables (Brussels sprouts, Belgian endives and Kalettes), as well as pears and strawberries.
The export business – which operates independently from Lagache – supplies a number of well-known brands including Cherrystar and Ruby Red from BelOrta, Reo’s Tomabel label, and a new brand called Honoré, developed since Lambrecht took charge.
Honoré pears have already been launched in the French market, with tomatoes and peppers soon to follow.
“We wanted to be distinctive and highlight our premium produce,” Lambrecht told FPJ. “With Honoré, we chose a timeless and elegant name that stands for the craftsmanship, knowledge, tradition, and respect for the hard work of our local producers in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. This production region is shown on the packaging.”
Commenting on the export company’s progress so far, he added: “The business is based on strong foundations when it comes to buying, sourcing and logistics.
“It’s still early days but we are building the business day by day. Of course there’s a lot of competition, but we want to create added value for our customers through our dedicated growers, innovative branding, and some clever new logistics.”
