Group managing director of Nationwide Produce, Tim O’Malley, has been appointed to the board of trustees at FareShare, making him the first from the fresh produce industry.

He joins the likes of Compass Group CEO Dominic Blakemore and Food & Drink Federation CEO Karen Betts OBE, and he will chair the organisation’s food committee.

Reflecting on his new role, O’Malley said: “Joining FareShare’s board is an honour. It’s a voluntary commitment, but the impact FareShare makes in addressing food poverty is profound.

“Being part of their initiatives like the Coronation Project is a significant opportunity to contribute positively to our society.”

Nationwide’s partnership with FareShare dates back to January 2020, and during the pandemic the collaboration intensified. Together, FareShare and Nationwide managed a £16m Defra-funded project to ensure the distribution of essential food to charities battling with the challenges of Covid.

Post-pandemic, Nationwide Produce has become one of FareShare’s leading food partners, donating the equivalent of 750,000 meals to date.
