More than 120 young horticulturists participate in farm visits, networking sessions in six states

Young agricultural professionals across Australia came together on 21 November of National Agriculture Day, with events bringing together the next generation of horticultural leaders.

Events were held in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania, with each state offering a unique event tailored to their local region. Over 120 enthusiastic young horticulturists participated in farm visits, networking sessions, and hands-on learning.

“National Ag Day was an amazing opportunity for young professionals passionate about horticulture to connect with like-minded peers, learn from experienced growers, and celebrate the vital role horticulture plays in our nation,” said the Young Horties committee, a national network created specifically for all young people working across the horticulture supply chain.

“These events were about so much more than just marking a day on the calendar. They were about building a supportive, vibrant community of young horticulturists who will shape the future of Australian agriculture. The passion and commitment we saw from every participant was absolutely incredible.”

Participants toured working farms and horticultural operations, gaining firsthand insight into diverse growing systems, innovative practices, and career pathways within the industry. The networking component enabled emerging professionals to build meaningful relationships, share knowledge, and establish connections that will support their agricultural careers for years to come.

According to the Young Horties the initiative attracted interest from young professionals eager to expand their networks and deepen their understanding of the horticultural sector. Attendees were thrilled by the opportunity to meet others who share their passion for sustainable food production and agricultural innovation.

Young Horties said the success of this year’s celebration set an exciting precedent for future National Ag Day events and the group was already looking forward to even bigger and better celebrations ahead.
