Fresh Del Monte is gearing up to import fresh sweet bell peppers from Costa Rica into the US next year, following three years of preparation.
Del Monte has some 52 acres of greenhouses in the country, with the group's vice-president of marketing Dennis Christou telling The Packer that construction should be complete in November, followed by first harvesting in January.
According to Christou, Del Monte is expecting significant volumes of green, yellow, red and orange peppers from the hydroponic greenhouses.
'The peppers will be entering through four ports: Hueneme, Galveston, Manatee and Gloucester,' he said.
