World table grape production has increased by half a million tonnes over the last year thanks largely to increased production in China.

According to a report by the USDA production grew to 16.5m tonnes over the last year despite production in many key growing regions decreasing.

The report showed production in the US fell slightly to 897,000 tonnes, while Chile also posted a slight decrease. Meanwhile, Argentina posted a massive reduction of around 25 per cent.

Production in European Union nations and Turkey remained stable at 1.9m tonnes and 2.2m tonnes respectively.

The big gains were made in China, although production there still failed to meet domestic demand with table grape imports rising 40 per cent to 168,000 tonnes.
