Chilean exporter Unifrutti Traders, one of the top Chilean exporters of apples, grapes, pears and stonefruit, has announced that it has sealed an exclusive marketing deal with Kiku for the worldwide marketing of the Fuji Brak and Fubrax apple varieties, using the Kiku brand.
Jorge Massanés, executive vice-president of the company, said: “We are very excited about this programme as we will be able to offer our growers a new apple variety characterised by its good colour, lack of russet and fabulous flavour.”
The firm and its associates are currently working on a project to plant 100ha in the Los Angeles area (500 km south of Santiago) of apple varieties such as Ambrosia, Fuji Brak and Fubrax, during the course of next year and 2009, which is intended to kick-start Kiku apple production in Chile.
