Agrexco peppers

Leading Israeli exporter Agrexco has announced a big increase in demand for organic fruit and vegetables, leading to an impressive rise in exports to the European market.

The company now exports almost 65 per cent of Israeli organic produce, and attributes its strong position on the European organic market to the fact that that Israeli agriculture was one of the first to follow organic processes.

According to Agrexco's export data for the current season, organic peppers marked an impressive rise. Chili peppers grew by 60 per cent, the Ramiro variety by 75 per cent and bell peppers by 11 per cent.

Meanwhile, melons marked a 70 per cent increase, with carrots growing by 17 per cent, red grapefruit by 15 per cent, vine tomatoes by 30 per cent and cherry tomatoes by 20 per cent.

Despite the economic crisis, Agrexco says it is hopeful that the organic trend will take hold in more and more European countries, leading to further growth.
