Leading UK soft fruit marketer Berry Gardens has announced that, following the 100 per cent re-acquisition of shares in the company by KG Growers from US berry group Driscolls, it has launched a new corporate image and name for its UK growers co-operative.

As part of the changes, KG Growers, which owns Berry Gardens, has become Berry Gardens Growers.

In a statement, Berry Gardens’ managing director, Nicholas Marston, said the change would be “much more than a cosmetic exercise in name changing”. It is rather, he said, intended to demonstrate the strength and focus of its growers and its business.

The change, Mr Marston explained, was aimed at reinforcing the fact that the business is “owned by growers and offers to all stakeholders the benefits this brings”.

“We operate as a single business, specialising in our crops, offering service and expertise to all – our customers, our UK growers, and partners and growers all around the world,” he said.

In addition to a new logo, Mr Marston said Berry Gardens had consolidated all of its websites into a single site which offers a full range of information on its products, as well as business to business services for its grower members.

The organisational change comes ahead of the start of the group’s berry campaign in the UK, which Mr Marston said was is likely to begin slightly later than the 2009 season, although growers expect to benefit from recent warmer weather.

Despite this, he revealed that the group’s overall strawberry production should remain the same as last season’s 24,500 tonnes.
