According to Agrarisch Dagblad, France imported a significantly lower volume of fruit and vegetables in 2010 than in previous years.
Imports of tomatoes reportedly decreased by 10 per cent, courgettes by 6 per cent and cucumbers by 4 per cent, causing prices to rise.
Prices for tomato imports were 48 per cent higher than in 2009, while cucumbers cost 10 per cent more.
Morocco exported only a quarter of the tomato volume it sent to France last year, agrarian information service Agreste revealed, while Holland saw cucumber sendings drop by 11 per cent.
Agreste attributed the decrease to unfavourable weather conditions during the spring in France's main supplier countries.
Bad weather was equally responsible for a decrease in fruit imports into France, with cherries and apricots experiencing a drop of a quarter, and peaches declining by seven per cent.
