The Commodore Group, which carries the bulk of all Guernsey flowers to Portsmouth, has been put up for sale.

Business is continuing as normal while the selling process is taking place.

For many years Commodore has provided a roll-on roll-off freight service between the Channel Islands and England, using modern ships with accommodation for truck drivers.

Recently, the Guernsey Growers' Association attempted to ask the Committee for Horticulture to approach the island parliament with a proposal to provide a freight subsidy for flower growers.

The committee rejected the idea but promised talks would continue regarding the horticultural industry, although these will not include consideration of a freight subsidy.
