A major national food award has been won by Evesham Vale Growers for its tomatoes.

The Q Awards, held at London's Dorchester Hotel last week, cover a range of categories from Drinks & Desserts to Meats and Ready Meals.

Evesham Vale Growers not only won the gong in the fresh produce category for its Sungold tomatoes – which were developed exclusively for Sainsbury's, but was also runner up with its Santa baby plum tomatoes.

EVG's spokesman David Shepherd said: 'We are delighted that all the time, care and attention that goes into growing and packing a crop like sungold has been recognised. Winning this Q is a testament to the products' quality.' Judges commented on the lovely smell of the Sungold variety, with one describing the taste as 'an explosion of sweetness and flavour'.
