RB Organics - specialist in the growing, processing and packing of top quality organic root vegetables - brought together its team of organic growers at its annual growers event, held this year at Murrayshall in Perth.

The event provides an opportunity for RB Organics to share information and ideas for helping to improve quality and performance across the whole growing group.

Interactive presentations were held during the morning followed by an invitation to join agronomy consultant Tom Wills in a technical farm walk around Sidlaw Organics in Perth to look at different aspects of product and fertility management as well as harvesting techniques.

The day concluded with a number of awards based on growers' performance league tables over the past year and the level of quality, service and commitment.

Grower of the year was awarded to John Taylor at Sidlaw Organics for his consistently high pack out, excellent level of commitment and determination to succeed.

Andrew Burgess, commercial director at RB Organics commented: 'We felt that Sidlaw Organics were the most progressive growers over the past year. This is the third season they have grown organic carrots and potatoes for us and have heavily invested in harvesting machinery with the transition from traditional to organic farming'.

The most improved grower was Peter Richardson from Home Farm, Newby Wiske in the vale of York. His strong level of commitment and exceptional parsnip crop prompted this award. Richardson said: 'I am delighted to be presented with this award and working with RB Organics has ensured that the transition from traditional to organic farming over the past five years has been relatively trouble free'.
