Half of Britain's adults have never received flowers according to a new survey, with just 13 per cent of 2000 interviewees lucky enough to get a bunch of flowers or a flowering pot plant even once a year.

The figures were released today at the Chelsea Flower Show by the NFU with a challenge for the public to give a bunch of British flowers and show someone you care. The 'Are you getting yours once a week?' campaign will take centre stage on the NFU's stand at the show from May 19 to 23.

NFU Vice President Michael Paske will launch the initiative supported by the BBC Gardeners' World presenter Rachel de Thame. Paske said: 'Europe delights in poking fun at our poor romantic reputation. We hope this fun campaign will wake people up to the pleasure in giving and receiving flowers.'
