The Freight transport Association (FTA) has predicted strong growth in activity levels in the third quarter of the year after a sluggish first half. Simon Chapman, FTA's chief economist said: “The results of our Quarterly Transport Activity Survey are very encouraging, with respondents from all sectors of the freight transport industry reporting expected growth and optimism in the market.

“However this good news is blighted by the unreliability of both the road and rail networks. Respondents are reporting more problems than during the same period last year and until these have been rectified industry will continue to incur unnecessary costs when moving freight."
