Capespan has shaken up its South African procurement operations, Capespan Exports.

Bokkie Strauss, head of the grape business unit, is now general manager for procurement of deciduous fruit, while Chris Steyn, previously stonefruit and soft citrus, is now general manager for citrus procurement.

Freek Dryer has also moved from the citrus team to become general marketing manager.

Further moves have seen Wiekus Hellmann transferred from the apple and pear unit of Capespan Fruit Division to Antwerp-based Capespan Continent and Capespan Grapes marketing manager Sarel Joubert has joined Capespan UK.

The moves are part of a series of organisational changes, reported by FPJ in November 2005. The changes are aimed at improving the company’s efficiency and performance. Louis Kriel, ceo of the Capespan Fruit Division, said at the time: “These initiatives are intended to deliver substantial overhead savings in the South African based procurement subsidiary.”
