Israeli exporter Agrexco has just revealed that it quit the port of Marseilles three weeks ago. The reason the company gave was better service and prices offered at the port of Savona-Vado east of Marseilles along the Mediterranean coast in north-western Italy.

The move by the Israeli sender means that Marseilles has lost its sole conventional reefer vessel client and has put to an end a near-40-year relationship between Agrexco and the French port.

Unions in France said the move has put under threat at least 60 jobs and has reduced activity at the port by 15 per cent.
