Blueberries

Blueberry harvest is underway in Canada’s British Columbia (BC) where growers are predicting a solid season.

The region’s 700 growers are looking at a good supply of juicy, sweet berries available until mid-September, according to the BC Blueberry Council.

While this year’s season has come earlier than the 2016 harvest, BC Blueberry Council board chair Nancy Chong said it was more in line with historical norms.

BC produces more than 70m kg of blueberries each year, growing on 11,300ha. In the past five years, sales have topped US$1bn, with Canada now the third-largest producer ofhighbush blueberries.
