Industry body Horticulture New Zealand is forecasting a bumper harvest in the upcoming autumn of top fruit, vegetable and other fruit lines in the Hawkes Bay area.

The area is the main growing region for NZ top fruit and a large workforce will be needed this year, Horticulture NZ’s director Ru Collin told the NZ press.

A recruitment website launched in the region last year is being rolled out nation-wide this season to help supply labour to the kiwifruit industry as well.

Overall the horticultural harvest season runs from February to May in New Zealand and some 15,000-17,000 workers are needed during that time to help pick and pack the produce.
