Queensland’s peak horticulture organisation, Growcom, has announcedthe appointment of David Thomson as its new chief executive.

Growcom chairmanLes Williams said Thomson would bring a wealth of experience to the role, including 34 years in senior positions across the private and public sectors, covering areas such as finance, marketing, sales, distribution and manufacturing.

“David has extensive experience across a number of disciplines and the Board is very confident of his ability to lead and direct Growcom as a profitable grower representative body working towards the sustainable future of the horticulture industry through effective advocacy on behalf of growers, effective grower engagement and the delivery of valued and relevant services to growers,” Williams explained.

“David is keen to engage with stakeholders and is excited about his new role. The board is very confident about Growcom’s future under David’s leadership.”

Thomson will start with Growcom on 8 May, following the retirement of outgoing chief executive Pat Hannan, who will finish with the organisation on 18 May.
