After trading for over 140 years, Melbourne’s landmark Queen Victoria Markets (QVM) is making an effort to encourage new and existing customers by modernising its service.

Teaming up with Melbourne based start-up YourGrocer, a number of stallholders at QVM will be able to sell produce online, which consumers can have delivered to their door.

QVM chief executive, Stan Liacos, said the interest from traders wanting to participate in the online service was overwhelming.

“The new online service will bring the Market’s amazing fresh produce to those who are time poor and may not be able to visit the market regularly, or at all, to buy groceries, but who still want to enjoy what Victoria’s favourite market has to offer,” said Liacos.

The new online service will initially feature 25 traders, with options including fresh produce, meat, fish and poultry, bread, eggs and even wine.

Co-Founder and chief executive of YourGrocer, Morgan Ranieri, said they are passionate about helping other local independent businesses thrive.

“This partnership will give our customers across Melbourne an opportunity to buy more of the fresh, quality ingredients Queen Vic Market is renowned for and provide Vic Market traders with access to a whole new customer base,” said Ranieri.

Same day deliveries will be available on orders placed before 11am on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
