Sector puts in its strongest performance in five years

Fresh lemon exports from Argentina climbed 43 per cent in the first eight months of 2025 compared to the year-earlier period, reaching US$140mn. Fresh orange exports 64 per cent to US$24mn. The figures, released by the Ministry of Agriculture, show the industry put in its strongest performance since 2019.

The recovery was driven by good climatic conditions, improved fruit quality, strong international demand and a favourable exchange rate. A sharp fall in lemon production in Spain and Turkey – the two biggest suppliers to the European market – also helped fuel the increase in Argentine exports.

However, the sector continues to face structural challenges, such as high logistics costs, tax pressure, and the need to strengthen port and refrigeration infrastructure. Going forward, maintaining competitiveness and the opening of new markets will be key to sustaining export growth.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Argentina exported 366,000 tonnes of citrus worth US$408mn in the first eight months of 2025, representing a 21 per cent increase in volume and 27 per cent increase in value compared to the same period of 2024.
