Asda Trollies

UK grocery retailer has become the latest supermarket operator to enter the country’s growing price war after announcing this week that it would cut the price of 3,000 products, including many fruits and vegetables.

In the latest salvo in the price war to be launched after rival Tesco’s opening shots in late September, the Walmart-owned company has slashed the cost of a swathe of products, with the price of bananas dropping to the lowest in the UK at 52p per kilo.

In tandem with the price cutting plan, Asda also announced that it would give “thank you” vouchers worth £5 to every customer that spends £40 in one of their stores during this week to go towards their next £40 spend.

The retailer’s ongoing Asda Price Guarantee promotion, which offers shoppers a refund if their total bill is not at least 10 per cent lower than the purchase of the same products in a rival’s store, will also stay in place.

Asda’s move makes it the latest major UK retailer to respond to Tesco’s Big Price Drop promotion, following announcements of similar price cutting drives by Sainsbury’s and Waitrose.
