The 2024/25 Chilean avocado crop is expected to exceed 235,000 tonnes according to preliminary estimates from the Chilean Avocado Committee. The committee said good weather points to this being the country’s biggest crop of the last 10 years.

It said the favourable conditions will also extend the season into June, two months longer than usual, since the campaign normally begins in August and runs through to April.

Separately, the committee has approved the appointment of Francisco Contardo-Sfeir as executive president of the board. He replaces Carmen Gloria Lüttges, who leaves the association after eight months take over as CEO of Avocoop in Spain.

Contardo-Sfeir is also vice president and director of the Chilean Avocado Importers Association (CAIA) in the US and a member of the Water Positive Think Tank, an international organisation dedicated to promoting sustainable water solutions.
