Exports grew 21.3 per cent last year, with Europe consolidating its position as the main destination

Exports of Colombian Hass avocados grew 21.3 per cent in value and 45.6 per cent in volume last year. According to customs data, the country shipped 201,479 tonnes worth US$275mn between January and December 2025.
Europe remained the top destination for Colombian Hass avocados, accounting for just over 60 per cent of total exports. The Netherlands was the largest buyer, taking US$134.2mn of avocados – 10.8 per cent more than in 2024.
Amongst the fastest-growing markets were Germany (up 39.5 per cent to US$7.4mn) and Spain (up 44.9 per cent to US$29.7mn). Shipments to France and the UK grew by 26.4 per cent and 23.4 per cent to US$8mn and US$28.8mn respectively.
However other European markets showed declining sales, notably Belgium (down 15.4 per cent to US$17.2mn) and Italy, where shipments fell by 57.5 per cent to US$907,042.
Production-wise, Antioquia accounted for 47.3 per cent of total shipments worth US$177.4mn, an increase of 50.2 per cent increase compared to 2024. Exports from Eje Cafetero, Risaralda and Quindio also grew and together these three regions represented 33.5 per cent of total shipments. By contrast, exports from Valle del Cauca fell 13.7 per cent to US$43.5mn, while those from Cundinamarca contracted by 21.7 per cent to US$19.4mn.
While the sector put in a strong performance last year, trade body Analdex noted that the sector faces a number of challenges this year, not least potential tariff adjustments, geopolitical volatility, and climate variations that could impact production and logistics.
“The avocado has become an example of how Colombian agriculture can gain ground in demanding markets. Now the challenge is to sustain that growth with greater added value, diversification, and stability in the rules of the game for international trade,” said Javier Díaz, Analdex’s executive president.
He added that collaboration between producers, exporters, and authorities will be key to consolidating the international position of Colombian avocados and aiming to not only maintain but surpass the results achieved by 2026.
