Jeronimo Martins has reported on full-year sales growth of 10.5 per cent through 2012, up to €10.9bn, as its Polish Biedronka operation helped fight off a weak domestic performance in Portugal.

Discounter Biedronka reported a 16.3 per cent increase in sales for the year, up to €6.73bn, with like-for-like growth of 6.4 per cent.

The result was driven by the addition of 263 new outlets during the year, with store revamps also taking place, and flew in the face of the slowdown of the local economy.

Results were modest at Pingo Doce in Portugal, where sales climbed 2.4 per cent to €3.06bn.
