During the first five months of 2013 strawberry exports from Peru expanded by 128 per cent to 3,365 tonnes, up from 1,475 tonnes in the year-earlier period, according to data from Agrodataperú and reported by Agraria.pe.
In value terms the sendings rose by 102 per cent to some US$5.1m, compared with the US$2.5m recorded during the first five months of 2012.
According to Agrodataperú, strawberry exports from Peru were mainly received by Germany (whose arrivals totalled US$1.3m in value), followed by Belgium (US$800,000), Canada (US$667,000), Puerto Rico (US$504,000), the US (US$347,000) and China (US$38,000), among others.
Agroworld represented the leading exporter of Peruvian strawberries during the first five months of the year, accounting for 39 per cent of the sales.
Other suppliers included Mebol, Agropackers, Frozen Foods and Peruvian Agro Services, Inca Frut, B&R Foods and Del Ande Alimentos.
