Turkish nectarines stonefruit Alara

Turkish statistical agency Institute Turkstat has revealed a major increase in the country's fruit production this year, which has risen 6.4 per cent to 18.3m tonnes in 2012 and, in doing so, outperformed all of the country's other agricultural products.

Notable rises have been noted for topfruit, up 12 per cent year-on-year at 6.68m tonnes, and for stonefruit, volumes of which are expected to be 11 per cent higher at 2.35m tonnes.

However, production volume for the country's largest hroticultural crop, table grapes, was lower this year at 4.28m tonnes, the agency reported.

Citrus output is set to be around the same as in 2011, coming in around 3.61m tonnes.
