José Enrique Sanz, left, with Indian buyers

The Cítricos Valencianos PGI believes there is excellent potential to develop exports to the Indian market following successful meetings with Indian buyers at this week’s Go Global Congress, an event aimed at SMEs in the Valencia region who are looking to increase their participation on the export market.

The PGI’s managing director, José Enrique Sanz, met with two buyers from India, as well as buyers from France and Germany at the fair.

“The French and German markets are two traditional markets for Valencian citrus, which are already familiar with our label and have shown a serious interest in using it,” Sanz said.

“On the other hand, the Indian market is very attractive due to its high purchasing power and quality demands, although the requirements set out under the import protocol are very complicated.

“Nevertheless, I feel there is a high level of interest in the country for our citrus. The two importers we met with recognised the value of our label and the tradition and benefits of Valencian citrus in general.”
