Major service provider to British supermarkets insists business remains unaffected but admits it is subject of ransomware attack
Temperature-controlled logistics operator Peter Green Chilled, which distributes chilled, frozen and ambient food products to supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Aldi, and Lidl has told the BBC it has fallen victim to a ransomware attack.
Speaking on Wake Up to Money, the company’s managing director Tom Binks insisted its transport activities had continued unaffected throughout the incident, and that orders placed on Wednesday would be fulfilled.
But with no orders apparently processed on Thursday, meat trade customer Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones told the broadcaster that the situation was “pretty desperate”, and that some of his undelivered products would have to be “thrown in the bin” if its supply chain did not restart soon.
Phil Pluck, chief executive of the Cold Chain Federation, said that just in the last few years “around about ten” his organisation’s 270 or so members had been the victim of some kind of cyber attack.
Peter Green Chilled is based near Shepton Mallet in Somerset and transports chilled food primarily to stores in the south-west region.
Marks & Spencer, Coop, and Harrods have all been hit by cyber attacks in recent weeks.
