Updated packaging offers increased product visibility and ventilation

Sainsbury’s has launched an updated version of its Pro-Produce Pack for Taste the Difference Golden Kiwis.

The plastic-free linerless pack concept has been well received by consumers since its initial launch in 2020, according to manufacturer ProPrint Group and supplier Chingford Fruit. They said customers welcomed the opportunity to recycle the pack at home by the kerbside, as well as appreciating the protection offered to fruit during transit.

The newest version incorporates a die-cut lid, offering increased product show-through and ventilation.

ProPrint explained that it is supplying the new die-cut lids in the same easily stored reel format. The Ravenwood Packaging Nobac 5000L applicator can then apply these at highly efficient speeds.

Rob Williams, director at Chingford Fruit, said: “This launch has been well received by Sainsbury’s and its customers. Part of the success of the project was the collaboration between all the key stakeholders. Not only this, but the clear vision of creating a format that would be befitting of the Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference brand was key.”

Graham Bonus and Andy Clark of ProPrint Group demonstrated the latest die-cut pack version at Fruit Logistica in February 2023, reporting that feedback from the industry was positive about the updated lid visibility, which they said “now enables producers to showcase, as well as protect the product”.
