’Chopped’ salads appear to be the next big thing in summer eating after an American social media trend has prompted the UK’s biggest supermarket to launch three new lines.

Tesco has added the new chopped salad packs to its summer range, with flavours including Asian inspired, with Chinese leaf and pak choi alongside shredded carrot; a sweet kale mix with white cabbage and radicchio; and a Caesar kit with Romaine, hard cheese and bacon crumb.

“Chopped salads have become a full social trend, with creators filling feeds with ultra crunchy, colourful bowls,” Tesco said.

“People want that same big texture, big flavour experience at home, without the chopping time. Tesco is proud to introduce its three new chopped kits.”

The bags, which are on sale at Tesco for £2.95, or £2.50 with a Clubcard, are labelled as ‘high fibre’ or ‘a source of protein’, in line with growing consumer awareness of those two nutrients.
