Retailer’s pick’n’mix Southbank activation to give away 5,000 portions of fruit and veg, celebrating third year of Tesco’s Free Fruit & Veg for Schools programme
Tesco will give away thousands of portions of fruit and veg to passers-by on London’s Southbank on Wednesday 16 September.
The single-day pop up, which requires zero sign-up, celebrates the third year running of the retailer’s Free Fruit & Veg for Schools programme, and is said to hope to encourage adults to make healthier snacking choices
A ‘pick’n’mix’ of fruit and veg will be available in a supersized blue and white striped bag, between 8.30am and 6pm.
Offered on a first-come, first-served basis, there will be almost 5000 portions available of everything “from crisp apples and juicy oranges to colourful peppers and creamy avocados”.
For the first 100 visitors, there will also be a Tesco fruit and veg plushie up for grabs.
This September, Tesco has doubled the participation of its Free Fruit & Veg for Schools programme to reach 1,000 schools across the country.
According to research from Tesco, only one in ten children in the UK meet the five-a-day target for fruit and vegetables on an average school day.
Since launching in October 2024, the programme has provided almost 20 million free portions of fruit and veg to children across the UK.
