Industry campaign Veg Power has joined forces with food charities to launch a toolkit as part of the nationwide healthy eating initiative, Bang In Some Beans.

Supported by The Food Foundation, Felix, Community Fridge Network, Feeding Britain, Bread and Butter and Food Cycle, the ‘Healthy Food Toolkit’ aims to support and maintain healthy eating as many families continue to experience the squeeze of increasing food costs.

As of early 2026, more than six million adults and 2.1 million children were experiencing food insecurity in the UK.

The toolkit encompasses an array of digital flyers, posters, family-friendly recipes, videos and digital links to advice on meal planning, batch cooking and reducing food waste. The kits will be distributed via community kitchens, food banks, pantries and local networks.

Dan Parker, chief executive of Veg Power, said: “The cost-of-living is tightening its grip which means increased pressure on the healthy food items usually purchased.

“This community outreach project aims to offer practical support to keep these items in their shop, make them stretch further and provide healthy eating advice that supports individuals over the longer term,” he continued.

With a strong focus on fresh produce, the kits will also highlight the benefits of beans and pulses as affordable, nutritious and filling staples. The initiative forms part of a wider campaign to double the UK’s bean and pulse consumption over the next three years.

Rachel May, head of community at Felix, said: “Charities and community groups across our network often tell us that when people they support are struggling to feed themselves and their families, they really value having access to fresh, nutritious produce.

“In working together to provide food to these groups, coupled with shareable resources to help people create nourishing meals on a budget, we’re making an important contribution to supporting healthier diets,” she added.
