Launching on Saturday, 31 January 2026, Super Saturdays will run every Saturday from 8.30am to 1.30pm, transforming the Melbourne Market trading floor into a vibrant public market experience.

Operated by the Melbourne Market Authority (MMA) in partnership with market traders, Super Saturdays will allow everyday Melburnians to shop the market just like the industry does. Unlike traditional farmers’ markets or retail outlets, the focus is on bulk buying, with fruit, vegetables and cut flowers sold directly from growers and wholesalers by the box, tray or bunch at wholesale pricing, delivering better value and fresher food.

The first edition of Super Saturdays will feature an array of summer produce, including juicy tomatoes, sweet berries, mangoes and melons, zucchini and capsicum, apricots and other seasonal stonefruit.

Melbourne Market acting CEO Malcom Lum said the launch marked a significant milestone for the market and a new way to welcome the local community.

“Opening the wholesale market to the public for the first time means families can access fruit and vegetables at great value, while getting a unique insight into where Melbourne’s food comes from,”  Lum said.

The Melbourne Market in Epping is Victoria’s wholesale fruit, vegetable and cut flower trading centre. The city has had a wholesale market since the land was settled in the 1800s, but access has previously been restricted to business-to-business transactions. Outside of Super Saturdays, trade at the Melbourne Market remains as usual for the thousands of businesses that operate there in the early hours of the morning throughout the week.
