Montreal-based Metro has reportedly appointed Daniel Archambault as the retail group’s new director of produce procurement, sales and quality control for Quebec, according to The Produce News.

Mr Archambault, Metro’s former produce sales manager and a 27-year veteran at the firm, replaces Ghislain Perron, a 29-year Metro employee and a 40-year veteran of the produce industry, who was named director of special projects for produce in July.

Bernadette Hamel, Metro’s vice-president of produce purchasing, merchandising and customer service for Quebec and central negotiations for Ontario and Quebec, told The Produce News that she was 'very, very pleased'.

'Daniel has a tremendous amount of experience and he's been working with the buyers all of his career, so he knows the division,' Ms Hamel said. 'He's got very strong attributes to take over the procurement side.'

Meanwhile, Ms Hamel said that Mr Perron's primary responsibility in his new position is to coordinate the local Ontario and Quebec produce deals for Metro.
