Flooding in southern Thailand has damaged fruit and vegetable production in the region, and affected exports to Singapore.

Prices on a number of products in the Singaporean market have risen around 20 per cent, according to The Straits Times, as a result of last month’s flooding and mudslides in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Krabi provinces.

“It’s mango season and we were supposed to have a batch coming in from Thailand on Tuesday but it did not arrive,” a spokesman for fruit importer-distributor Heng Teck Huat Fruits tol the Times.

Parsley, baby corn, sweet potato (yam) and chives have been particularly affected, with prices on parsley rising from US$6 a kg to US$8 a kg in Singapore’s wet markets.
