Perfection Fresh Australia has acquired the exclusive sales and marketing rights to Calypso mangoes from Australian fresh produce company OneHarvest.
The sale makes Perfection Fresh one of the leading mango marketers in Australia, with around one-third of Australia’s domestic mango industry sales.
Perfection Fresh CEO Michael Simonetta said the company would build on OneHarvest’s work growing the Calypso brand, and is looking to increase the consumption of the mangoes both domestically and overseas.
“We are thrilled to bring Calypso mangoes into our family of products and brands and will work closely with the Calypso grower network and supply chain to ensure we deliver a consistently high-quality product with full season availability for the major chain stores and independent retailers,” said Simonetta.
“We plan to drive sales with tailored and targeted consumer campaigns focusing on the unique attributes of Calypso mangoes and the health benefits of consuming mangoes.”
Perfection Fresh is looking to double export sales in the next three years, which currently account for around 7 per cent of Calypso mango sales, with opportunities to grow exports to South East Asia, the US and the Middle East.
“In pursuing export growth, we also will explore opportunities to expand Calypso mangoes internationally, paving the way for the establishment of plantings in other continents. This will generate cross-seasonal sales opportunities for our Australian growers,” Simonetta said.
Perfection will take over the marketing of Calypso mangoes immediately, with the harvest expected to kick off in September. This year volume is expected to be significantly up on last year’s 10,000 tonnes of Calypso mangoes.
