Capespan hopes to export almost one million cartons of mangoes and litchi's this season

Capespan is expecting to export nearly one million cartons of mangoes and litchis this season. The company said that it aims to consolidate its position as major export of subtropical fruit in the months ahead.

Ian Waller, Capespan's executive responsible for subtropical fruit exports, said: "All our growers are well advanced with the EurepGAP accreditation. We have developed mutual trust between the growers and ourselves. It is important to remember that we have a fragmented industry with many exporters and Capespan is constantly striving to develop the kind of relationship that give us preferred status with both importers and customers."

Waller said that Capespan is fully supportive of efforts by the South African mango and litchi industries to interact with other supplier countries, in order to prevent over-supply situations.

He said: "It is not good for any of us and although we compete, we need to do so while ensuring a stable market situation."
