Syngenta exhibited its latest products at Fruit Logistica under the brand name PFI - Partnership for Innovation.

"Our objective is to use innovative plant breeding methods to enable us to supply fruit and vegetables with an enhanced flavour, which specifically meet current taste trends," said Michael Sempf.

He added that Kumato is a very dark tomato which is sweeter and juicer than other varieties. And Toscanella is the tasty cocktail tomato which stays fresh for longer.

In breeding the different varieties of melon and sweet peppers too the objective has been "more flavour, improved appearance, more long lasting, easier to deal with" and above all "adaptation to typical regional taste preferences".

It does not take Sempf long to explain his company's reasons for attending this fair: "We develop a new product together with the packaging and then look for partners to launch these innovations on the market with."

Syngenta was formed two years ago as a result of the merger between Novartis Agribusiness and Zeneca Agrochemicals, and claims to be no. 1 in the world among the manufacturers of plant protection products and the no. 3 seed producer.
