Compass Group UK has made a commitment to source 100 per cent English apples and pears throughout October and November.
More than 1.5 million apples and 240,000 pears will be served to workplaces, schools, hospitals and sports and leisure venues across the UK over the period.
The apple varieties, sourced from growers including Cotswolds Orchards, Adrian Scripps Ltd and Hill Farm Orchards, will feature Cox, Royal Gala, Braeburn and Bramley, while pear varieties will include Comice, Concorde and Conference.
Christine Forder, lead buyer fro Compass Group, said: “We strongly believe in purchasing and promoting produce that is in season and have committed to buying only English apples and pears across our 7,000 client sites when they are at their best.
English Apples & Pears chief executive Adrian Barlow added: “Compass is leading the way in the foodservice sector and we value their support.”
