The Colombian Association of Blueberry Growers, Asocolblue, has launched the Colombian Blueberry brand to help consumers more easily identify the product’s origin and recognise the distinctive quality of locally grown blueberries.

According to the association, Colombian blueberries are characterised by their intense flavour, freshness, and quality.

“Colombia has conditions that allow us to offer a product with high standards of quality, freshness, and flavour, and we want more and more consumers to be able to identify it,” said Fredy Cortés, president of Asocolblue.

Furthermore, the project seeks to encourage more producers to join and support the expansion of planted area in the country as local demand continues to grow.

In 2025, Colombia produced 12,000 tonnes of blueberries on almost 1,000ha of plantings. Cultivated area is forecast to increase by 20 per cent in 2026, bringing the total to 1,200ha.

Currently, 95 per cent of production is destined for local consumption. Such has been the growth in domestic demand that imports of the fruit have soared. Between January and September 2025, Colombia imported more than US$10mn of blueberries.

The fruit’s popularity at home is also keeping export growth in check. Last year, the country is estimated to have shipped just 575 tonnes of blueberries worth between US$3mn and US$3.5mn, primarily to the US.
