Delegation of avocado, lime and apple growers travelled to the Asian country to meet with importers and retailers

A group of Brazilian fruit producers visited India recently to assess the potential of one of the world’s biggest consumer markets, in a visit organised by the Brazilian government.
The delegation, which included exporters of avocados, Persian limes, and apples, visited leading wholesalers, wet markets, retailers, organic stores, and specialist importers in New Delhi and Mumbai.
In Mumbai, the visitors participated in an international horticulture trade fair, and visited the Port of Mumbai to assess the logistical conditions for importing fresh fruit.
The group also visited a logistics company in the Indian state of Haryana, where they toured refrigerated storage facilities. The parties discussed issues related to transportation, sanitary requirements, and trade conditions for the entry of Brazilian fruit into India.
The visit included a presentation of Brazil’s fruit portfolio to key Indian businesses and government agencies at the Brazilian Embassy in New Delhi. A mobile distribution centre was also launched, providing users with information on Brazilian products and export opportunities via QR codes. The service is available in Portuguese, English, and Hindi.
With a population of approximately 1.4bn, India is the latest market targeted by Brazilian suppliers as they continue to broaden their export horizons. Since 2023, 34 new export destinations have opened for Brazilian fruit. In the first quarter of 2026, Brazilian fresh fruit exports grew by more than 20 per cent in value and 13 per cent in volume compared to the same period of the previous year.
