Dr Martín Mottura will present the company’s innovative post-harvest avocado solutions on the Insights Stage
Citrosol’s Dr Martín Mottura will present the company’s avocado preservation solutions at the new Insights Stage at next week’s Fruit Logistica. In a presentation entitled: Technologies to reduce food losses in avocados, he will offer a comprehensive overview of how applied innovation can transform the post-harvest management of this product.

Citrosol is focusing on avocado preservation at this year’s Fruit Logistica, presenting two innovative solutions that significantly extend the fruit’s shelf life, improve its quality, and reduce losses throughout the supply chain.
In his presentation, which takes place on 4 February at 12:30 in Hall 21, F 60, Mottura will showcase two complementary post-harvest technologies for avocado preservation: the Citrocide Avo System, an organic, hygienic washing system for the effective control of stem rot and improved food safety management; and PlantSeal Tropicals, a plant-based coating designed to reduce weight loss and pulp necrosis associated with chilling injury.
According to Mottura, “the PlantSeal Tropicals coating reduces weight loss in avocados by up to 35 per cent throughout the distribution chain, in addition to decreasing pulp necrosis caused by chilling injury by more than 80 per cent, which has a direct impact on reducing food losses”. This can help companies minimise claims and extend shelf-life during storage and transportation.
During the presentation, Citrosol will also share real-world industrial results from export packing plants in Peru, demonstrating the performance of the Citrocide Avo System under commercial operating conditions. Mottura will present the results of independent trials conducted by IVIA (Valencia, Spain), which have shown that PlantSeal Tropicals significantly reduces chilling injury, helping to preserve the fruit’s internal quality and minimize pulp necrosis during prolonged cold storage.
Citrocide Avo System is an organic, hygienic washing system designed for the effective control of peduncular mould and improved food safety in avocados. “With efficacy rates exceeding 90 per cent, it is positioned as a sustainable alternative to fungicides, leaving no residue and certified for organic farming,” Citrosol noted.
PlantSeal Tropicals is a plant-based coating that protects avocados from dehydration and chilling injury during storage and transportation. According to Citrosol it can reduce internal browning by up to 84 per cent and extending shelf-life. The solution is also certified with the V-Label vegan seal.
