Ian Craig, Thanet Earth

UK-based fresh produce group Fresca has announced the appointment of Ian Craig as the new managing director of its greenhouse vegetable production venture Thanet Earth Marketing, replacing the departing Steve McVickers.

In a statement, the company said that Mr Craig would be moving from his position as managing director of its specialist potato and vegetable business, Manor Fresh, to oversee the development of the ambitious Thanet project.

Fresca has recently completed construction of three greenhouses, of a projected seven, for the 91ha Thanet Earth venture, which it is undertaking with producer organisations Rainbow Growers, Kaaij Redstar and A&A Growers.

The facility is dedicated to tomato, cucumber and pepper production and is now marketing 10 different varieties of tomatoes during the summer months and five others during the winter.

Mr Craig joined Fresca five years ago to run DGM Growers and was instrumental in the formation of Manor Fresh, a joint venture between the company and Bakkavor/QV.

The group said that Mike Scott, currently commercial manager at Manor Fresh, would be replacing Ian Craig as its managing director, with immediate effect.

Fresca said that Mr Craig was now looking forward to building on the early successes of Thanet Earth and helping it to mature into a strong performing business.

As a result of the appointment, the company said that former Thanet Earth managing director Steve McVickers would be leaving the business.
