Programme will bring research, training, and agricultural technologies to producers in six regions of Peru

Peru’s Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) and the National Institute for Agricultural Innovation (Inia) has announced a new programme to help the country’s producers deal with the fallout of El Niño.
The Agricultural Innovation Services Network Project (PRED) aims to bring research, training, and agricultural technologies to producers in six regions of the country.
The initiative is expected to benefit more than 92,000 producers by providing knowledge, technological tools, and technical support to improve their productivity and strengthen their capacity to respond to climate change and the effects of the El Niño phenomenon.
The goal is to enhance INIA’s Agricultural Experimental Stations (EEA) in the regions of Cajamarca, Cusco, Puno, Lambayeque, San Martín, and Junín.
As reported in Agraria, these INIA experimental stations will be equipped with specialised infrastructure, laboratories, equipment, greenhouses, nurseries, training centres, and demonstration plots. The budget for this initiative is estimated at approximately US$118mn.
